[Tear was up at the crack of dawn as per usual, walking off some lingering traces of sleep, getting a feel for whether or not anything was amiss out of doors, and proceeding to hike a little ways off the path to do her ritual morning training. It wasn't particularly necessary, but it was the norm for her, and something familiar. It made sense. And she certainly wasn't going to complain that she had remembered artes in the process. It was almost ridiculous how something so simple as running through her most basic artes could fill her with relief. She yanked one of her knives out of the trunk of a large cedar tree and checked along its edge for any nicks or scratches.]

Well, this might be a small improvement at the very least.

((OOC: I actually had a nice plotty entry written up, but we'll save it for another time. 1% on her base and arcane artes - Pow Hammer, Nocturnal Light, Severed Fate (hey, look, her username!), and Banishing Sorrow. She can also use FOFs, if FOFs are possible here. 17% used, 1% remaining.))

[Klarth is a few minutes' walk down the path, though being up at the crack of dawn is not a usual for him. He had been spending his time drawing what appeared to be strange circles on the ground with a stick, a pile of books stacked up by a tree behind him.

The sounds close by attract his attention and he heads down the path to spot Tear -- coincidentally using Pow Hammer.]

. . . Houjutsu? I'd thought that was a type of magic unique to my world.

[For some reason we have a feeling Klarth will like Tear very much -- well, her "magic" anyway.]

"Houjutsu"...? [She glances up from her examination of the knife to observe Klarth. A fonist perhaps...? No, maybe not. Mage class, at least?]

Oh, you must be referring to my artes. I do agree that this is a bit unusual, however... Normally others have no idea what I'm speaking of when I mention things that are common on Auldrant. Might I ask what in particular is familiar to you?

[Oh Klarth, you geek.]

Houjutsu is a branch of healing and assist magic that a friend of mine would use in battle -- although it can't properly be called magic, being a human technique. I suppose 'Artes' may very well be the better term.

That bit there with the manifestation of mana in a physical form -- Would it happen to be the Pow Hammer technique?

"Artes" is what we call them. I've noticed that others use the general term "magic" to explain such an ability, but there are numerous differences. On Auldrant, artes are performed by manipulating the fonons present in all things, giving every object its own frequency. The different types of fonons coordinate with the elements, and not every person has the capability of using all types of fonons - some people cannot control them at all. Such is not limited to humans - monsters are also capable of casting artes.

[She's just a little surprised that Klarth knew that. Perhaps he heard her yelling "Pow Hammer"...?]

Yes. The technique is called Pow Hammer... but I'm not entirely sure what "mana" is.

Ah. Works a little differently where I come from. Magic stems from mana, an intangible spiritual energy that further gives root to all life. Humans are unable to access the mana stream, however, and Houjutsu actually draws from a different energy source.

Pow Hammer was one of the techniques my friend used.

Fonons seem as if they might be somewhat similar to mana, but not precisely the same, and without such limitations.

I see. It was one of the basic techniques that I acquired during my Oracle Knights training. Can you recall any of the other techniques used by your friend?

Ahhhh! Sorry, missed your tag. =(

Hmm. I'll have to go take a look in the library about these 'fonons'. But yes, as I said, she mainly used healing and support abilities. First Aid, Charge, Dark Mist, Sharpness, Resurrection, Revitalize . . .

I see. I'm also familiar with these artes, however the only one that I can confirm my own use of is First Aid. It was one of the first things I remembered.

I'm not certain that there's very much information about fonons in the library, but, if you really wanted to know more about them, I could...

An excellent suggestion. I'd like very much to hear more about your brand of magic.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA -- *cough*

Right. Of course. Where would you like me to begin?
I already explained the most basic principles of fonology to you.

I suppose you could begin by explaining what precisely a fonon is. I'm afraid it's still a bit beyond me.
