nightcrossed: (Looking Back)

Lately I've taken to reading books about different cultures, since I noticed that not many people are even aware of what fonons are and don't seem to be able to sense them. I hadn't considered how diverse the various worlds are until just recently. In fact, it's surprising that we have anything in common, and yet there are numerous similarities between us.

I was wondering if there are any other holy days that are commonly celebrated on the island?
I recall there was "Easter" back during the blooming period with the father-and-son, egg painting, and rabbits.

Speaking of rabbits...

[OOC: Uh, yeah, it's about time Tear finally got a pet, in case anyone wanted to know. And it will be named "Fluffy" as per canon. Don't laugh, giving pet names isn't her forte!]

Fonons, huh. So, what are they?

They're vibrating particles... particles of sound that make up all things. Fonons are split into six types - darkness, water, wind, earth, fire, and light. In addition to these, there's a seventh fonon which has been called several different things including the fonon of memory and the fonon of life. Essentially the seventh fonon is thought to be a sound fonon - other fonons that mutated into a new form.

Fonons are used in various technologies as well as by healers and soldiers in battle. While most people can learn to use different types of fonons, seventh fonons can only be used by those who were born with the ability. Several people have told me that the idea of fonons parallels items from their own worlds... ethers, blastia... even magic. I'm not sure how similar they are.

As a melodist, I'm able to control seventh fonons.

I guess that makes sense when you've got them all laid out like that. And being a controller of the seventh fonons means you've got more going for you. What exactly does it mean to be one, though? Like, what's so special about having that power?

Ethers and blastia . . .

Lots of seventh fonists are healers. In my case, controlling seventh fonons also allows me to use the fonic hymns - they're similar to artes (spells), only in order for one to cast them, one must have a clear understanding of the proper melodies and their meanings. The fonic hymns, fonic artes, and even fonic weaponry were developed during the Dawn Age. However, we lost much of the technology and knowledge from the Dawn Age after the Fonic War. An ordinary army equipped only with swords and shields would be no match against an army of fonists.

Fonists must be pretty capable to be able to overcome that much. Then again, it would serve that army right for entering battle with minimum equipment.

But you've actually remembered all this? You can use these fonic hymns again?

I've heard artes compared to "magic", if that helps. But yes, proper control of fonons would give the user a very obvious advantage over someone who couldn't use them at all.

I've remembered some, but I'm fairly sure I haven't remembered everything there is to know about fonons. My brother used to teach me, and I've had training, but even after being brought here, I had help. There are other people from my world in Memento Eden; some of what I know came from them.

As for the hymns, I've only remembered two of them. I believe there are quite a few more left forgotten.

All right, then . . .

Show me a few when you remember more later, when you've got the time?

I suppose that would be fine.
All right. I'll let you know when I remember more, though it may take a while.

Fonons...

Sorry. I don't know what those are, either.

I'm not surprised.

Essentially fonons are sound particles that comprise all matter in my world.

[so he takes a second to digest that.]

All matter? So even basic elements have fonons as a component?

From: [identity profile] a-severed-fate.livejournal.com
At least on Auldrant, yes. The fonons themselves form elements... darkness, earth, wind, water, fire, and light. There's also the seventh fonon... essentially a mutation of the others. Its element has been debated, but it's probably easiest to think of it as a sound fonon.

[Nevermind the periodic table.]

[Well. That's...more than a little bit unreal. Curiosity's afoot.]

What else can you tell me about it?

About what precisely? Auldrant or fonons?

I was thinking the latter, but I'd like to hear about both of them if you didn't mind.

I don't suppose I really mind, but I haven't remembered a great deal. It would probably be easier to show you what fonons are and how they can be used than to try and explain it in detail.

Whenever you have time, then. A demonstration would be great.

During the week I always have at least some free time in the mornings, before eight. With evenings it depends on if I'm giving lessons or not. As for the two days that come at the end of the week, "Saturday" and "Sunday", I normally don't have any specific plans on those days.

The rest of the time I'm generally working at the cafe.

"Christmas" is a fun holy day!

It's a birthday party for the son of a very important god, but instead of one big party, every family has a big dinner together and gives out presents. But there are big parties, too!

[Tear's interest is piqued.]

Christmas? That sounds interesting.
So then, when is this holy day celebrated? Are there other traditions besides eating with family and exchanging gifts?

[OOC: Methinks Tear would love mistletoe. Oh, and Valentine's Day. But most of all - Halloween. Actually, she WOULD love Halloween if it weren't for the ghosts.]

It's a winter holiday! Everyone leaves milk and cookies out for Santa Claus so he has the energy to deliver everyone's gifts overnight. Some people hang stockings near the chimney for a special bonus, but there aren't any good fireplaces for that in the apartments, so Mokona hasn't tried!

People also like to hang up mistletoe, but other people usually take it down so they can chase people with it!

((OOC: Tear needs a black Mokona.))

Winter's going to start in just a few months, isn't it? I don't think I'd mind taking part in "Christmas", but I'd have to find out more about it, first.

...

What's "mistle tow"?

Mistletoe is a plant you hang up so people will walk under it! If two people end up there at the same time, they have to kiss~
